Restoring Family Links in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member.
We help you to look for family members in United Kingdom
The British Red Cross Society helps people look for family members who are believed to have come to the United Kingdom.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:

  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;
  • World War II;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:

  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;
  • World War II;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help restore contact between family members
The British Red Cross Society helps people in the United Kingdom restore and maintain contact with family members abroad through Red Cross messages. This service is provided:
  • when loss of contact is due to armed conflict, other situations of violence, natural or man-made disasters, or migration; and
  • when other means of communication (telephone lines, postal system, etc.) are disrupted or not available;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help reunite families
The British Red Cross Society helps reunite refugees with their families.

The British Red Cross Society can provide information about family reunification, help refugees with the related travel costs where possible and help newly reunited families orientate themselves in the United Kingdom.

We provide other services
The British Red Cross Society can try to find information for people who are worried about the health and well-being of a close family member with whom they have suddenly lost contact. In particular, we try to help vulnerable people.

The British Red Cross Society forwards official documents with Red Cross messages for people in other countries where no postal services are operating, if this is possible.

The British Red Cross Society and the ICRC deliver attestations of detention for former prisoners of war and detainees registered by the ICRC, including during World War II.
