The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation) works to inspire, facilitate and promote all humanitarian activities carried out by its member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Federation directs and coordinates the Movement’s international assistance for victims of natural and man-made disasters, for refugees and in health emergencies. It has a lead role in development support for National Societies and promotes cooperation between National Societies to strengthen their capacity.

With respect to Restoring Family Links (RFL), the Federation works with National Societies to ensure that RFL is incorporated into their disaster-preparedness and response plans, organizational development programmes and strategic plans. The Federation also supports National Societies to ensure cooperation between their fundraising, communication and tracing services and to include RFL as part of their overall fundraising policies.

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster, the Federation will ensure that assessments of the situation take account of the need for RFL and the degree to which the National Societies of affected countries are able to respond. The Federation ensures that RFL is included in training programmes for emergency-response teams.

Finally, along with all other components of the Movement, the Federation uses its forums, meetings and networks to arouse interest about individuals and populations affected by family separation and to promote the Movement’s RFL work.
