Restoring Family Links in Hungary

How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member.
We help you to look for family members in Hungary

The Hungarian Red Cross helps people look for family members in Hungary.

  • We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:
  • the Hungarian revolution in 1956, World War II or emigration during the communist period in Hungary;
  • other armed conflicts or situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

On request, the Hungarian Red Cross can use a monthly family periodical and the website www.tracing.hu to advertise about the people you are looking for.

We provide other services

The Hungarian Red Cross can try to find information for people who are worried about the health and well-being of a close family member with whom they have suddenly lost contact. We try to find information if there is evidence that previous regular contact existed.

The Hungarian Red Cross or the ICRC delivers attestations about:

  • detainees in concentration camps on German occupied territory;
  • prisoners of war and forced labourers who died in Soviet camps during and after World War II;
  • victims of internment on the territory of Hungary during World War II;
  • detainees registered by the ICRC.
