Restoring Family Links in Lebanon

How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member.

We help you to look for family members in Lebanon

The ICRC helps people look for family members in Lebanon.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:

  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

The ICRC is not in a position to look for persons who disappeared during the various conflicts in Lebanon between 1975 and 2000.

We help you look for family members in another country

The ICRC, together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, helps people in Lebanon look for family members in another country.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:

  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help restore contact between family members

The ICRC helps people in Lebanon restore and maintain contact with family members through Red Cross messages. This service is provided:

  • for persons deprived of their liberty in Lebanon, with their families in Lebanon or abroad;
  • for family members of persons deprived of their liberty outside Lebanon;
  • for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon;
  • when loss of contact is due to armed conflict, other situations of violence, natural or man-made disasters or migration; and
  • when other means of communication (telephone lines, postal system, etc.) are disrupted or not available;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help reunite families
The ICRC, together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, can help reunite people with their families in Lebanon or abroad if this is possible.

Any involvement in family reunification depends on authorization from the government authorities.

Acting in its role as a neutral intermediary between the Israeli and Lebanese authorities, the ICRC repatriates Lebanese nationals living in Israel who wish to return to Lebanon.

We provide other services
The ICRC forwards official documents with Red Cross messages for people in other countries where no postal or consular services are operating, if this is possible.

The ICRC delivers attestations of detention for detainees visited by the ICRC during the period 1975-2000 and since April 2007.

The ICRC delivers attestations of birth or death in Israel for Lebanese civilians in Israel, allowing those families to register their relatives’ birth or death in Lebanon.

Using ambulances of the Lebanese Red Cross Society, the ICRC repatriates the mortal remains of Lebanese nationals who died in Israel and whose families wish to bury them in their native Lebanon.
