Restoring Family Links in Yemen

How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member

We help you to look for family members in Yemen

The ICRC helps people look for family members in Yemen.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:

  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

For Yemenis:

The separation must have occurred after 2014.

For migrants:

The separation for Somalis migrants must have occurred after 1990, for other migrants after 2010.

The offices where we provide RFL services are: Sana’a and Aden. From Aden we also cover the area of Taiz.

We help you look for family members in another country

Currently the ICRC, together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, helps people in Yemen look for family members in another country.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:

  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help restore contact between family members

The ICRC helps people in Yemen restore contact with family members through Red Cross messages, Safe and Well, Salamat and BBC service, in this last case only for Somalis. This service is provided for those who have lost contact with close relatives:

  • due to armed conflict, other situations of violence, natural or man-made disasters, or migration; and
  • when other means of communication (telephone lines, postal system, etc.) are disrupted or not available;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help to reunite families

The ICRC together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, help reunite separated children with their families in Yemen. On a case by case basis, we try to help:

  • unaccompanied or vulnerable separated minors who have become separated from their families as a result of armed conflict or other situations of violence
We provide other services

The ICRC forwards official documents with Red Cross messages for people living in Yemen or abroad when it is possible.

The ICRC Yemen delivers attestations of detention for detainees and former detainees registered by the ICRC.
