Restoring Family Links in Papua New Guinea

How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member
We help you to look for family members in Papua New Guinea
The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society and the ICRC help people look for family members in Papua New Guinea.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.
We help you to look for family members in another country
The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society and the ICRC, together with Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, help people in Papua New Guinea look for family members in another country.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • migration;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.
We help restore contact between family members
The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society helps people in Papua New Guinea restore and maintain contact with family members through Red Cross messages. This service is provided:
  • when other means of communication (telephone lines, postal system, etc.) are disrupted or not available;
  • when loss of contact is due to armed conflict, other situations of violence, or natural or man-made disasters;
  • for refugees, asylum seekers, detainees and migrants;

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help reunite families

The ICRC may help reunite particularly vulnerable detainees with their families abroad.

Any involvement in family reunification depends on authorization from the government authorities.

We provide other services
The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society can try to find information for people who are worried about the health and well-being of a close family member with whom they have suddenly lost contact. We try to find information when contact was lost around three months previously.
