Restoring Family Links in Pakistan

 
How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member
We help you to look for family members in Pakistan
The Pakistan Red Crescent and the ICRC help people look for family members in Pakistan.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration
  or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

 
We help you to look for family members in another country
The Pakistan Red Crescent and the ICRC, together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, help people in Pakistan look for family members in another country.

We try to help you when you have lost contact owing to:
  • armed conflict or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • migration;
  • detention abroad;
  • the Pakistani diaspora abroad;
  • other special situations, only within the framework of family reunion, such as the repatriation of Afghan refugees;
or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.
We help restore contact between family members

The Pakistan Red Crescent and the ICRC help people in Pakistan restore and maintain contact with family members in Pakistan and abroad through Red Cross messages, tracing requests, allegations of rest (outside of Pakistan. 

This service is provided:

  • For those who have lost contact with close relatives;
  • When loss of contact is due to armed conflicts, other situations of violence, natural or man-made disasters or migration; 
  • For separated or unaccompanied children;
  • For detainees visited by the ICRC abroad;
  • When other means of communication (telephone lines, postal sytem etc.) are disrupted or not available.

or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help reunite families

The Pakistan Red Crescent and the ICRC help reunite vulnerable people with their families in Pakistan or abroad whenever possible.

In particular, we try to help:

  • separated or unaccompanied children;
  • women living alone;
  • disabled people; 
  • elderly people living alone.

Any involvement in family reunification depends on the authorisation of governmental authorities.

We provide other services
In case of emergency/disaster, whenever possible psychosocial (PSS) first aid can be provided by the Pakistan Red Crescent to affected families along with RFL services.

The ICRC and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society cannot accept a request when there is insufficient information to conduct a search or when it is made for the purpose of genealogical research or tracing in connection with legal matters such as wills, child custody etc., or in order to trace birth parents or third party requests.
