Restoring Family Links in Côte d'Ivoire

How the Family Links Network of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement can help you look for a family member, restore contact with a family member or be reunited with a family member
We help you to look for family members in Cote D'Ivoire
The Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire or the ICRC helps people look for family members within Côte d'Ivoire.

We try to help you when you have lost due to:
  • armed conflict or other situation of violence;
  • arrests due to security or political reasons;
  • the post electoral crisis of November 2010;
or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help you to look for family members in another country
The Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire or the ICRC, together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, helps people in Côte d'Ivoire look for family members in another country.

We try to help you when you have lost contact due to:
  • armed conflicts or other situations of violence;
  • natural or man-made disasters;
  • the post electoral crisis of November 2010;
or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.
We help to restore contacts between family members
In Côte d'Ivoire, the Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire or the ICRC helps people living in and outside the country restore contact with family members through Red Cross messages. This service is provided:
  • when loss of contact is due to the post electoral crisis of November 2010; or
  • when loss of contact is due to armed conflicts and other situations of violence, natural or man-made disasters, or detention; and
  • when other means of communication (telephone lines, postal system, etc,) are disrupted or not available;

 or in other situations of humanitarian need, when possible.

We help to reunite families
The ICRC and the Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire, together with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, under certain conditions, may help people reunite with their families in Côte d'Ivoire and in neighbouring countries.

In particular, minors not accompanied by any member of their family and who have been separated following the post-electoral crisis of November 2010 can be reunited by the ICRC in collaboration with the Red Cross Society of Côte d'Ivoire.

Any involvement in family reunification depends on the authorisation of governmental authorities.
We provide other services
The ICRC delivers attestations of detention for detainees it has visited. The ICRC also forwards official documents annexed to a Red Cross message for people separated due to conflict, or for refugees or migrants in detention.

The ICRC ensures notification of foreign detainees to their embassies when requested.
